In 1990 Gomel State Medical University was founded as per resolution of the Council of Ministers and Order of the Minister of Health of the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic. It is the youngest of four medical universities in Belarus. Gomel State Medical University has attained the status of a modern university and is recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) and many other international professional groups. Graduates of the University work in clinics throughout the Republic of Belarus, Western Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia. Today, Gomel State Medical University employs 600 highly qualified professors and assistant professors within 34 departments.
